Long time no post! I know, terrible really. Absolutely terrible. But I’ve been in England studying in York! Don’t believe me? HOW DARE-I’LL PROVE IT.
Here I am at the Harry Potter Studio Tour-with the newly released Hogwarts Express exhibit.
So it totally makes sense I haven’t had time to write about my more nerdy pursuits. Still-this blog post is a double whammy of nerdy and study abroad stuff so you’re getting a double dosage. Today I’m talking about the lovely Birthday features in video games.
Subtitled: Also How I made all of the army’s children fall in love too. Also I’m fighting a few wars I swear.
Now, I’m normally not one for tactical games besides the regular plug and chug through JRPGS that I’m just about addicted to. I’ve never really enjoyed the whole notion of THINKING really hard about the game I’m playing before I play it. But a few of my close internet friends were like ‘ALEX COME ON THIS IS REALLY HELLA CHECK OUT THE DEMO PLS’ so I finally caved and checked it out.
Welcome to the end of the first half of the school year-where the grades matter and sleep is an illusion. In times like this, I try to indulge in the simpler things in life. I find things that make me happy and do them. Whether that’s video games or reading-I get my fix somehow. So tonight, as I struggle with papers and memorization and basically a workload of death-I’m going to talk about some things that help me unwind and help me get through the roughness of the finals period!
even the simplest tasks become difficult at the end of the semester
So it happened at last-this past Friday was a HUGE day for media. Not only did The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1drop in theaters (Great movie by the way you should all check it out) but Super Smash Bros for the WiiU dropped and so did the highly anticipated reboot of one of Pokemon’s most beloved generations of games: Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire or in their newest incarnations: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I have been saving money all semester to spurge on this nostalgia trip and let me tell you, it was SO. WORTH IT.
Fans, glorious fans. From the dawn of time people have loved to talk about how they think something should have ended. Whether it was the fact that a hunt should have ended with MY spear instead of HIS spear or that Melissa and Jon were meant to be I can’t BELIEVE HE DID THAT UGH- Humans just can’t deal with bad endings. They crave more. And luckily, there is a way to sate the itch. It’s called Fan Fiction and I’ve spent more nights than I’d like to admit binge reading coffee shop AUs. So let’s give it a look see!
Wait-it’s three am? oh crap I have a test tomorrow!
So tonight I finally (finally? It only came out Friday calm down me) got to see Big Hero 6. Now, I’ve been looking forward to this movie ever since the first teaser came out with the scene of putting all the armor on Baymax-so I’ve been riding the hype wagon for a really, really long time. So I’m going to try to-in the most non-spoiler-y way-talk about how AWESOME this movie was.
Here are our heroes. Let me tell you how they’ve ruined my life.
Since Halloween just passed-it’s only fitting I get onto the topic of Cosplay. Short for Costume Play-it’s a form of expressing ones love for a series that can be traced back to when Star Trek first came out. Since then though, it has become a global phenomenon that now seems to have become a beast all its own. So, let us discuss the ins and outs of one of the funnest ways to express your love for a series!

As usual, being a college student, I always seem to jump onto the game bandwagon late. It’s a mix of reasons most times. Either the game is only available in the eStore, or I can’t get to a retail store that carries it, or I’m just plain broke. In this case, it was the third option. It really sucks having to be responsible with money, I tell you what. However! This time I was able to pull some strings and finally get it done. I can hop on this bandwagon and ride it until the end of November when Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire comes out.
I will punish you! Now, if this phrase doesn’t already trigger you into posing and feeling like the strongest girl on on the playground you fall into one of a few categories. One, you were a boy and therefore could not have been the coolest girl on the playground. Two, you were one of those girls who would rather play with barbies and thus tended to stay away from the girls running around shouting strange things. And Third, you have no freaking clue what I’m talk about. So what am I talking about? Well…
The Hero of Justice and Love…Sailor Moon!- (1×01)
I’m talking about the sensation of the 90s-Sailor Moon. What’s Sailor Moon, you ask? Well my friends-time for me to explain a 21 year old phenomenon.
Hey there guys! So, it’s October, which is the month of spooky and ‘spooky’ things-and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. And when October rolls around I’m always fondly reminded of a milestone in a webcomic I read pretty religiously. Homestuck’s Third Act started on October 14th in 2009-and Act Three is one of my favorites. Keep in mind, this comic has been running since April 13th 2009. It’s 2014 now. That’s five years. And what the heck is Homestuck?
Well, I think the better question to ask would be, what ISN’T Homestuck?
